My Friends,
20+ years ago following an ethylene decomposition incident on one of my early projects, I saw the effects of ethylene decomposition which started in a steam heater, which made its way back into the unit melting the foam glass off the piping as it progressed.
After this happened I did some research on safe handling of ethylene including: decomposition by various initiating methods (heat, 13x molsieves, compression, catalyzed by rust and copper, etc), autorefrigeration, thermal expansion, etc. I had some good reference papers with pressure and temperature curves for thermal decomosition, and general good practices. Unfortanatly this was so long ago that the traing presentation I made was on overhead slides which I have long since lost. Now I would like to create a power point training for a new project which we are about to start-up.
Can anyone point me to some good references on these type safe handling procedures? I am just starting my research. Case histories are pretty easy to find, but I am struggling to find more detailed references. Any help is appreciated.
best wishes always,
sshep
