Safety Distance for Package Boiler Installation 2

In our new project, we would like to install the package boiler (20 barg @ 45 Tons/hr) and keep the safety distance 30 m from the existing building.

However, there is also the existing electrical transformer in adjacent area. I would like to relocate this transformer. Please advise me about the safety distance between boiler and transformer.

In most cases, if you have an electrical transformer nearby one can erect a brick (containment) wall that partially surrounds the transformer, similar to a cubicle. This affords protection to nearby equipment and workers. We have this type of situation in most of our Power Stations.

You should check with your local building code to make sure this is permitted.
 
Adding a little to metengr's post, make sure you have the cubicle/wall properly designed by a civil engineer for any over pressure event in the area. Watch the air circulation around the transformer, cooling.

I have seen the loss of a transformer due both scenarios stated above.

Thanks for the comment. I will study more about the wall design around transformer. If possible, please guide me about the reference standard to design the wall.

I understand that the boiler standard in my country allows minimum safety distance 2.5 m between boiler and machines. However, I'm not sure that transformer can be identified as machine or not? Please advise me about the practice in Power Stations.

I would check any of the National or Local Electrical Codes or Standards regarding locating transformers in service buildings. I am sure that there are standards that provide guidance for safe distance and containment.

The NFPA in the US has a guideline that covers many of the unique code issues found in steam power plants.The guideleine is NFPA 853, and it covers station transformers.

As I recall, large powerplant transformers require a protective wall, fire detection and water spray. Additionally, NFPA-853 contains recommendation on transformer placement.

NFPA-853 was developed by NFPA based on EPRI fire reports and recommendations.
