my company is developing a packaging machine which will require the operator to place his hands into the "danger zone" to place a package. we are using a light curtain to guard that zone. it will be muted during the portion of the cycle in which the operator places the package. i am using 4 inputs to the light curtain's relay to enable the muting - two prox switches, a relay controlled by the state of a plc output, and i'm not sure what to do about the fourth.
it should be something controlled by the operator, but it must not slow down the operator's work. i'm thinking about using a NC momentary push button that would break a latched circuit, thus de-energizing the fourth input. when the cycle starts over, it will re-energize the circuit for that fourth input. would osha approve of this setup?
