Same environment as my last post...high radiation and nitric acid wash downs. I have an entire lower block (Hook, trunnion, sheaves, sheave pin, side plates) which need to be stainless steel.

Can I get away with ASTM A564 Type 630 Condition H1150 to handle the corrosive resistance ?

Thanks !

Unless your "high radiation" involves neutrons, it most likely won't harm metal.

If you can rinse off the acid, that stainless (17-4PH) should be fine. It has approx. the same general corr. rest. as 304.

Thanks. It is Gamma Radiation, so I should be O.K. with radiation.

Metalguy,

would carbon steel A572 be able to resist 0.10M Nitric Acid ? It will be sprayed once a week to rinse off any contamination. I searched on the Internet for any research done in this regard & came up empty.

Thanks !

Nitric acid, even in that low conc. will attack CS, but if you can rinse it off well shortly after the acid rinse, it should last a long time.
