We are designing a sample connection to be installed in a 2" produced water line. this lines operate in a intermitent service.

Is it possible to install this sample connection without a sample quill?. Pipig group has problems with the installation of quill in small diameter lines. The other option is increase the size of the pipe in a short section in order to install the quill. However we thought that it is not necessary.

I would like to know your esperiences or recomendations regarding this simple question.

The purpose of a sample quill is simply to try and get as representative a sample as possible, i.e. from pipe centre where there is no sediment etc.

If your pipe diameter is small then a sample taken from somewhere other than dead bottom of the pipe will probably be just as good as one from centre line, especially of the velocity is turbulent (Re > 2000) in the line (well mixed)

Hope that helps
