Sand Separator built per ASME B31.8 in Lieu of ASME Section VIII, Div 1.

Hello!

I am trying to find information about the sand separators built per ASME B31.8. I thought B31.8 was transmission pipeline specification, and pressure vessels cannot be built to that code. Has anyone heard of B31.8 sand traps? Any information is appreciated.

If the strainer meets the exemption criteria (a piping component like a filter) it need not be constructed to ASME VIII.
