I have a sealing application for a variety of chemicals and we are debating on whether to use Santoprene(costly) or EPDM(cheap). I understand that EPDM is a rubber and santoprene is a thermoplactic rubber. I also understand that the santoprene, on a chemcial composition level, has a polypropylene backbone with small "EPDM looking" molecules attached to it. Why in some instances would the santoprene be rated excellant and the EPDM be rated poor(ie 98% Sulfuric Acid)? Does the polypropylene backbone give it that much added resistance?
