Looks for guidance on using a nonlinear friction element to model foundation - soil interface, for the condition of very high horizontal acceleration time history ground motions; I know the superstructure will move relative to the subsurface, and there will be permanent horizontal displacement.
Friction at interface = 0.5, and spectra accel > 1.5g (T=0.1s), and PGA > 1.5.
My interest is peak structure acceleration, and permanent horiz displacement. Ground motion is scaled El Centro and simple sinusoidal at 2 Hz.
1. Does CSI (or anyone else) have an example problem for this? One-dimensional shaking.
2. SAP2000 provides many options for joint boundary conditions. Is the "Friction Isolator" Link/Support type the best selection? If so, for a very simple 2D problem, what fields do I populate.
Not much guidance from CSI, and previous posts here at eng-tips have gone mostly unanswered.
