Im trying to create a grillage model of a simply supported slab in SAP2000. I have added loads acting at the nodes where transverse and longitudinal members cross/meet, but there appears to be no transfer of load to the transverse members , only the longitudinal. Can anyone explain why this might be happening? Thanks in advanced.

The floor must be meshed (either through Assign menu automesh or explicit meshing using Edit menu>Edit areas) along each member where you want to transfer loads. If you use a slab, please note that by default, a slab distributes loads 2-way only at meshed joint locations. You can, however, assign area load to slab using the "Uniform to frame" option, which enables the shell load to be distributed as distributed load along the length of beams. A few minutes experimenting with these options should solve your problem.
