Hello,

I for the life of me cannot figure this one out. I have created a multibody part (2 bodies) for injection molding and am trying to save off 1 of the bodies using either the split body or the save bodies command. I get an error when I try this stating "The trimmed pieces cannot be identified from the saved information." Any ideas? From what I understand if I am using the saved bodies feature than I do not need to identify a trimming surface. I have included a picture for reference. The body in red is the one I am trying to save as a new part and it passes through larger piece. I am runninng SW2008 SP04 Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks,

Yes I can do that, but in order to create the .sldprt file for the smaller part (part in red) I would have to copy the entire multibody part (and all of its features) then do a body delete to the larger part. By doing this it would make the file size large for the smaller part becasue it will still reconize the features for the larger part. Not ideal, but if it is all I can do than I will have to live with it. I was really hoping I could use the splitbody or save body tools as intended and cannot see why this part would not work in these cases.

Thank You

Hide the big body and save as parasolid. Then open and save as part.

Unless you want it linked back to the original. I forget if Save Bodies lets you do that.

I was hoping to keep this linked back to the original I believe save bodies allows that option. These work arounds will work but I am wondering why the save body or split body tools are not working. Is it a bug or the geometry that I am trying to split?

Thank You for your help,

Rich

I just made a multibody part to try this and it worked fine: Create a cut through the entire part and select only the body you want gone. This will leave the one you want left. If you want you can create two configs with these type cuts leaving the separate bodies. You'll still have linkage to the multibody parametric file.
