scale and printing

ok all I want to do is draw a square 10m x 10m and print it out at 1:100. Why am I finding this so difficult. I dont know if i,m typing in metres and cant for the life of me print out a square that realates to the dimensions i want. Please advise, I am using 2000i. Please go through from the very start. Thanks. Everytrhing else is ok.

You need to clarify a few things:

1. Are your units set to metric?
2. Are you getting a plot that does not scale properly?
3. Did you select the 1:100 plot scale?
4. What are your limits set to (should be more than 10,000mm)?

You really should not be having any trouble printing a
100mm square so check each of the above items and get back to us if your still having problems.

ok on starting a new drawing I set units to decimal. I draw a square 10 units by 10 units. I go to page set-up set scale to 1:100 and print on A4. The resulting lines when printed is so small it can only just be seen. They should be 10cm long! if the real square is 10metres by 10metres.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner but we had a death in the family.

You said that you've drawn a square 10 units x 10 units.
Are these units MM, CM, or Metres?
I believe that you may be drawing in millimetres which would give you the small square when printed at 1:100 scale.

Well, this is a bit tricky

because, unlike Microstation Intergraph etc,
in AutoCAD, the only place where it says
1 DU (Drawing Unit) = 1 m
is the memory of user.

So, in Plot dialogue, the scale must be set according to this information in the user's memory:

10 DU = 10 m = 10,000 mm = 100 mm paper

1 DU = 10 mm paper

when this scale is set in Plot dialogue,
the real scale becomes

1 DU = 1 m = 1000 mm = 10 mm paper.

which is effective 1:100 scale in mind.


Still, I get confused everytime myself.
