like to make an automotive scale model as starter for real production, what is a good scale to use, 1/4th 1/3th ??

Depends what you want it for. Our stylists often use 1/5 scale , as do the aerodynamicists.

For packaging and so on we use 1:1 so we can use slave and carry-over parts.

1/5 is good for me, its indeed for the aerodynamics, in this case a 3 meter long closed twin axle trailer, many thanks your info.
 
With a 3 metre long model you'll need a 'full size' (in car terms) wind tunnel, although you may get away with a half size one if the test section is long enough.

Check with your wind tunnel for the maximum size models they can accept!
