Schematic Capture/ Simulation EDA package 4

I use a very old version of ViewLogic EDA package for schematic capture and simulation. Since ViewLogic does not exist anymore, it is not possible to get any updates.. I would like to look in to OrCAD, Electronic Workbench or some other EDA package, possibly under $5K. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, is there any source for buying a slightly older versions of these EDA packages to save some money?

It depends how complex your designs are.

The OrCADs, PADS and others have become quite expensive over the years.

Take a look at Pulsonix. I don't know if anyone in the forum has experienced it, but it looks almost too good to be true. It can import and export to lots of other formats too. There's a trial version available.

Try Protel, I believe they sell their schematic/simulation software as a separate package called Circuit Studio.

Viewlogic does exist, it was purchased by Mentor Graphics a while back. Its been renamed DxDesigner, and interfaces with either PADs or for high end layout, Expedition. I'm currently running version 8.3.1

Else, if on a budget or hobbyist, I'd suggest Eagle by Cadware

hi, I would rethink your actual needs. Very few people need simulation and for those who do there are plenty of older "spice" programs around for allmost nothing. When looking at pcb software only get what is needed now. Whatever you buy will soon be out of date and need upgrading so the more you start out spending the more you will end up spending, there is no "investment" value in software.

Intusoft Icap4Rx is a package that is a very good simulator
but its schematic capture is a little weak.
If you really want to simulate circuits accurately
I vote for Intusoft.
I have tried Electronics Workbench and I do not like it.
It captures the schematic better but the simulation
is not that good.
Using simulated Agilent instrument is a silly idea
for those who cannot use serious simulation packages.
