Some screen printers has the complex squeegee drop/lift mechanism with squeegee down stop parameter and separate unit for squeegee pressure. Is there any disadvantage if this mechanism is replaced by a simple pneumatic drop mechanism mainly consist of one cylinder and a pressure regulator?

Screen printing presses use pneumatic cylinders for serveral functions and each of these may need to be controled in terms of length and speed of stroke.

The lifting of the screen frame DURING the print stroke is called "peel" and must be adjusted to match the SPEED & STROKE of the PRINT squeegee.

The up/down and front/back travel of the "flood" and "print" squeegees is also usually regulated in terms of speed & travel distance. Some "high end" presses use several cylinders across the print squeegee to maintain uniform pressure.

Some simple presses may be able to combine print & flood motions with the same cylinder, but these will cause big problems with more precise work. Ask me how I know! ;-)

The answer to your question depends on the type of printing the press will need to do.
