Screw Pullout Ratings

There is a good source for pullout ratings using Archon Winwood. Is there a good reference for screw pullout ratings for steel? Or should I just use the bolt rating as the ultimate. Need the safe rating of say a #12 screw pullout in a light gage metal stud.

Not sure if this is relevant to your case, but I am using sigmacalx.com library for bolted structures where pressure is involved in testing equipment as a load.

Looks like we have shear and tension. I will check it out. Thank you.

What you are looking for doesnt exist bc you're trying to simplify a 10d problem to 2d. Bolted joints have quite a few failure modes that all require analysis. The fasteners themselves suffer male and female thread stripping, shank tensile, shear, and torsional failures, and bolt/screw head failures before you get into bearing surface failures or joint durability. Its the engineer's responsibility to do the full BJA proving that every joint is safe, and test critical joints. Forget the fancy software, make a spreadsheet to ensure that every failure mode is considered. Bolted joint failures due to lazy engineers skipping BJA&testing are prob the most common design-quality failure. Many of the failure-analysis contracts I've had ended with a serious dent in someone's career bc their laziness cost an employer $$Millions.

There should be tables of bolt and threaded material pull out tests. The bolt root thread area will be in shear and/or the threaded hole material, which should not be the reason for failure. Need to give bolt material and hardness and thread engagement as well as class of thread. Is it UNC or UNCF or UNC extra fine? I did have this data in the past, so I am just trying to find it or remember what source I used.

If this is a continuing need, it wouldn't be too hard to actually test- see some of the videos on the Project Farm Youtube channel, for example.

I have a reliable pull-out program for wood from Archon. Could use a program for 12 and 14 gage metal.
