We manufacture a specialty compact 2hp induction motor with variable rpms-- approx. 1800 rpm - 14,000. We need to make the motor waterproof. We have had only limited success with a lip seal and the mechanical seals I've seen are not capable of these high speeds. In fact we would like to adapt it to an application which will approach 25,000 rpm.

Can anyone recommend a consultant or point us in the right direction for a seal design appropriate to our needs? The shaft O.D. is approx 1/2"
Thank you!

I would call Inpro-Seal and ask them. They make probably the best deal out there, but their stanard products show 10,000 RPM. They can however build a lot of things that are not standard.

Those speeds are typically found in something like a Sundyne pump. I believe Flowserve are a manufacturer / supplier to Sundyne.

You might get more assistance in Forum407 where dealing with fluid seals is an everyday task. If you re-post the question in the pumps forum then either link to this thread or use the 'Red Flag' to request an administrator to remove this thread.

Thank you very much for the helpful replies. It sounds like Inpro-Seal may have a Labyrinth Seal suitable for our application. I was impressed with their customer service. A regional manager has scheduled a visit our site to look into this, first hand...
