Hi all,

I have a query regarding Magnetic drive seal less pumps...

Client's requirement is dual containment with liquid & vapor leak detection sensors.

Vendor cant provide vapor leak detection in secondary housing, & suggests that bearing housing will act as secondary housing....

Service is Toxic and Combustible.
Vapor pressure is less/0,

Can bearing housing act as the secondary containment ?
also, as per specs we require vapor leak detection, but do we realy need vapor leak detection AND liquid leak detection ?

let me know what else data is requried ?

Thanks ....

i saw the detail of the Klaus... Thanks ....

Vendor is Flowserv...

i wanted to ask that if vapor pressure is low, and there is no chance of vapors, can the vapor leak detection requirement be omitted ? or shud it be considered for any possible fumes from the toxic service ?

It depends on the application.

If client's requirement is vapor leak detection then no it cannot be omitted.

On a magdrive pump there is the chamber the magnets are in that could possibly be sealed and equipped with leak detection liquid or vapor. You would just need to talk with the vendor about getting this done. I haven't been impressed with floserves line of mag drive pumps or responsiveness. They seem to like to tell you what you should do so that it is in line with whatever product they are trying to sell.

Thanks ash9144 and bimr for your replies...

they are sealless pumps, & requirement for most of the pumps is dual containment.

anyways, i havent had much experience with flowserv, but i will check if they can comply...

thanks again for your help

The Klaus Union dual isolation shell will give you the leakage detection required similar to vapor detection. In the event of the inner shell ruptured, the leakage liquid or vapor will pressurize the space in between the dual isolation shell and activate the the pressure switch or transmitter to trigger the alarm.
