Hei,

In one of the application in offshore, we have an hazardous open drain header routed to a collection tank and then into a seal pot (fire wall) before it is dumped into an open drain caisson.

I am wondering about how to design a seal pot for open drain and I could see literature for flare system seal pot and not for open drain system and is there any standard that is applicable?

Appreciate for your response.

In certain previous legacy designs this concept was employed in few placed.

I witnessed one with my previous employer's refinery plant(if recalled correctly MEK dewaxing unit's moist solvent condensing vapors reciving tank's vent was routed through such a hydraulic sealing;double U shapedi.e one inverted one normal shaped)

similar concept hydraulic sealing pot(through process compatable liquid;may or may not necessarily be water)might be the concept you referred.

However the system can not be called

'environmental friendly' or

even 'very safe'

to be employed in your described conditions.
Hope this is helping,I belive!

Best Regards
