If I am raising an enquiry for a new seal pot, what information do I need to have in order to raise a demand for requisition. Or what information should assist me in assessing the quotation that I will receive from the supplier.

When you say seal pot you need to specify API Plan 52 or 53A. Plan 52 is a non pressurized seal pot and 53A is a pressurized seal pot. If you do not have an API standard Google these piping plans to better understand what you need. So the first thing you need to know is does the pot need to be designed to a code? If you are in the oil and gas industry for example; you may need ASME VIII or AS1210 depending where you are in the world. You may be in an industry where these are not required. Depending on the product, for Plan 52 you should have High pressure switch and High & Low level switch if the product leaks as a liquid across the primary seal. If the product leaks as a gas then High level switch not required because it will not activate. Include a Pressure Gauge. Your site may have a preference to use Transmitters. For Plan 53A you can have same except instead of High Pressure you have Low pressure switch because maintaining pressure is critical to the operation of a pressurized seal and if the pressure drops the alarm will alert the operator of a seal leak. You also need to specify whether you want Stainless Steel or Carbon Steel. Level gauge is also required. Dont forget the design pressure & Temperature.

trust this helps
