I am currently looking at using a garolite tube in a piston assembly and need some information about garolite as a material. The shaft is 1/2 inch in diameter and needs make a seal with a 1500psi gas pressure difference. Having never worked with garolite before I am wondering what the surface roughness is like in stock condition and after being machined. Is it smooth enough to seal with a couple of o-ring seals or do I need to look for another material?

Thanks

It appears that Garolite is {canvas|linen|paper|glass} reinforced phenolic.

Most seals won't like it, especially after machining.

You need a different material.
