Sealing Metal Roof Openings for Cables

Hi everyone

I am tasked to deal with sealing openings in metal roof of one of the cement plant structures( belt conveyor). There is a bunch of loose sizable cables running in a cable tray and through single skin corrugated metal roof sheet ( no insulation just the metal sheet). How will I seal the space around the cables? It has to be water tight as water cannot leaked through and mix with cement being transported in the structure. Anybody has a detail for this kind of thing???

You likely need to enclose the cable tray to provide a waterproof enclosure and flash to the enclosed tray.

I mean , the space all around the cables in the tray. Do i use some kind of foam or caulk??

By having the tray enclosed, you can add or remove cables as required, or construct a small 'doghouse'. Talk to one of the tray manufacturers... done it often. You may have to have a 'gooseneck' (or whatever it's called) leading to the penetration to keep water out.

The Original Poster (OP) has not provided a sketch or dwg, but I think you missed the point above.

You've (properly!) addressed water-sealing the cables coming out of the cable tray, but that's not his real problem.
He has a cement dust conveyor enclosure, and has cables going through the roof od the dust enclosure. So he needs to seal the individual cables going through the roof AFTER they come out of the cable tray. Not the individual or grouped cables coming out of the cable tray.

And, if those roof connections stay dry (keep water out of the enclosure envelope) the cable tray problem is avoided as well.

Now, I don't have a solution to the roof penetration problem, but I think that is what needs to be addressed.

racookpe... you need an enclosed tray, or you need to construct a small 'doghouse' to effect a waterproof penetration (or relatively waterproof). It's about the only way to effect a seal through the deck.
