I have a project where I need to control a single 24vdc brushed motor (with encoder) at max 3.5A which can be connected to a pc to communicate with it. It only needs a few IO connectors (for safety switches and encoder) and ethernet connection would be nice. I just need to tell the motor accelerate for 5s, maintain X speed for X number of rotations, decelerate for 5s, and stop if a switch has been triggered. I searched and found this:

Galil CDS-3310 Ethernet/RS232 1-axis Motion Controller and Drive

but $745 seems very high for something like this. Does anyone have a suggestion of what I should use for this application? Thanks in advance!

The best off the shelf unit I could find looks like the Maxon MAXPOS 50/5, digital positioning controller, 5 A, 10 - 50 VDC. I like it because it has an Ethernet connection, room for expansion if I increase the motor strength, seems to be a plug and play option. It might be overkill for what I am doing but it is an industrial application that needs to run without interruption for months to a year at a time.

Anyone have any experience with this controller or maybe a different recommendation? Also, I need to find a power supply for this. Something with filtering. 110V - 230V input and 24vdc output for max 8A. Any suggestions on that which would match the Maxon MAXPOS selection?

Thanks, Aron
