WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THE PROCESS OF MODIFICATION OF AN EXISTING NOZZLE ON A ASME SECTION VIII DIV 1 AGAINST DIV 2 VESSEL?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IF YOU ARE REPLACING AN EXISTING NOZZLE WITH A NEW NOZZLE.

PLEASE PROVIDE REFERENCES.

CAN YOU WELD TO A DIV 2 VESSEL IN MODIFICATION WORK? WHERE CAN I READ ALL THE RULES?

One question - this is for an in-service vessel or new construction???

Try the NBIC, if you are in North America. I suspect that you would also have to re-issue the UDS for a Div. 2 vessel. However, the process likely varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Contact your local Boilers Branch (or Boiler Safety Association, etc) for specifics.

This is for an in-service vessel. We need to make the modification for installation of a new internal device for liquid/gas sepearation. The nozzle needs an internal flange for installation. Unfortunately the existing inlet nozzle does not have an internal projection and flange. Thus we might have to install a new nozzle with the internal flange.

The NBIC (National Board Inspection Code) is the reference document that should be used if this is an in-service vessel, and I would suggest you obtain and review this information. This is also an international standard. There are very specific requirements for Div 2 vessel modifications/alterations. The most important is having a registered PE review and approve the design calculations for this activity.
