I've seen several posts in this forum about Section VIII, Division 2, Class 1 and Class 2 vessels. What I don't recall seeing is a discussion on manufacturer stamps and how much more common a U-stamp is than a U2-stamp.

As of right now many of the manufacturers we utilize only have U-stamps. I'm not sure how easy it is for our suppliers to obtain a U2-stamp, but if Division 1 really is an outdated part of the Code and the Committees are planning on moving away from it altogether (please correct me if I'm mistaken), will the means to obtain a U2-stamp be as straightforward as it is to obtain a U-stamp? If so, all that needs to happen is the manufacturers need to get on board and if they want to stay competitive they will have to obtain a U2-stamp.

Since I don't work for a manufacturer, I really don't know how much more difficult it is to obtain a U2-stamp.

This is more of a thought than a question. Is this a big deal at this point in time? Thanks.

Great point. That is why Code Case 2891 was written. Code Case 2891 allows U stamp holders to apply for, and receive, a U2 Class 1 stamp without holding an additional joint review. The U2 Class 1 stamp will remain in place until the next scheduled joint review for the manufacturer.

This will permit those manufacturers to test drive Div 2 Class 1 on a trial basis.

I certainly advise all U stamp holders to apply for it and take advantage of the "free trial offer".

Thanks - I was unaware of this particular Code Case.

Speaking for a manufacturer... I just wish software suppliers would also provide a "free trial offer"...
