Are there any size limitations stated in section VIII whereby the rules no longer apply? Ie; Maximum Diameter?

Thanks.

If you hold a reasonable pressure constant and increase the size, size would be limited at some point by maximum thickness/toughness considerations and cost.

If you hold the thickness constant and increase the size, at some point, the allowable pressure would drop out of the range covered by ASME, and you'd be into an API-620 tank or similar.

If you're looking at shop-fabricating a vessel, then crane capacity, shop size, shipping considerations, and heat-treating capabilities all might enter into it. It may be cheaper to get two shop-fabricated vessels than to field-erect one larger vessel, for that matter.

Also notice there are some limitations and special requirements for very small t/R ratios. That doesn't limit vessel size, but may require additional thickness or design considerations not otherwise required.

Yes. Read ASME Section VIII, Div 1 Scope U(c)-1 (i).

metengr, there is no such section. Did you mean something else?
