For materials requiring impact testing, there seem to be two interpretations, which one is correct? I hadn't heard of one of these interpretations until yesterday but I won't say which one as to not skew the question.
1. Since the paragraph says "When proceedure tests are made on material over 1 1/2 in. (38mm) in thickness", it is taken to mean that when a procedure is qualified on 1 1/2 in. thick material, only two sets of CVNs are required, but as per Section IX, the weld procedure is qualified to 8 in. thick max. (i.e. The 1 1/2 in. limit is only listed to define the amount of testing required for the procedure test and does not have to do with production limits.)
2. The 1 1/2 in. limit is taken as a production welding limits. So a procedure tested on 1 1/2 in. plate is only good to weld up to 1 1/2 in. material.
Or another interpretation???
