Section volume cut in assembly

Well, the DMU, I believe, still does not allow you to make a precision placed cut - but you can actually insert a new part in your assembly, and use it to cut analysis sections.
Insert a new part in your assembly, and follow the instructions here:
Make sure to use the Part Bodies, and not individual surfaces when selecting your intersection data. (if that's what you really want)

The method that you suggested is similar to just creating a CATPart from a product but allows you to choose what parts you would like to bring over to the new part, which is really handy.
I continued looking in the help files for some idea on how to create a section cut a specific location and found it!
When being in the sectioning definition dialogue box, select the position tab and click on the "geometrical target" icon, then select a plane or face that you want the section cut to be located.

Very nice. I have seen that thing a million times, and never tried it like that. (or found it in the help docs) You are now a living proof of why it pays to immerse ones' self in the documentation. It was very easy for me to find the topic under the heaing "geometric target."
I don't currently have any DMU functionality, and I remember (at my former employer) always having this issue with not being able to place the planes. I don't know how far it goes back, but it would have been nice to know.
Now that you have that, you can export the sections, (under the 'result' tab) and you should be good to go. It should be much more efficient than my previously mentioned method.
