I can't seem to figure out how to section a Product model, so that I can create snapshots for a proposal.

Use the "sectioning" tool.

If you aren't sure what it is, type c:Sectioning in the whitespace at the bottom, and watch to see which icon lights up.

I tried the sectioning tool, but the section is not visible after selecting "OK" on the sectioning toolbar(Using R14).

Have you tried different settings? (try the "Result" tab)

Have you chosen to ouput the section as a volume?

I guess my next question would be, is the product model supposed to remain sectioned after selecting "OK" on the sectioning definition toolbar?

Yes, it is. And again, modifying the outputs will give different results.

Several possibilities are:

A volumetric section cut (part physically cut)
Wireframe only (no part cut)
output of wireframe sections as neutral file format (iges)

After using "sectioning," you should have an object in the tree called "Applications", and under it, should be another called "Sections." Your sections should be visible as long as this object exists in the tree.

Make sure that your section is actually cutting the part, of course.

I have tried all outputs. the volume section cut is exactly what i am looking for, but once I exit the sectioning command, the section is gone.

I've noticed that a section appears under "Applications" while I am in the sectioning command, but dissapears once I select OK.

Is there a bug in R14 that does not allow this to work?

I want to be able to create a section through my assembly and then create snapshot images, assembly parts while sectioned, etc.

Thanks,

In order to keep a section in the tree, you need to have the DMU Space Analysis license (SPA). Otherwise you can only view the section while creating it. If you just want a few images, you could use the Tools->Image->Capture function while using the sectioning command.

Do you have any DMU licenses ?
