Seed Part settings changed from NX4 to NX 7.5

We have been facing this typical problem of Seed Part settings (for e.g. Preferences -> Annotation) getting changed. When we migrated from NX2 to NX4 there was no problem with the settings. But the problem started when we opened these seed parts (of course these are Read Only files) in NX 7.5, we ended up in wrong text height, color, section line preferences etc.

We tried with Refile option also to save these files in NX 7.5, but with no luck.

since nx5 we have seperate standard for drafting -> look into customers defaults. Even thre is a setting controlling if the seed pard or the drafting standard should be used - > In small you can change thes behaviour using the drafting standard from tools-> Load Drafting Standard.
reg.

Why are the seed parts read only, and can't you make them write access ?
Are you running Teamcenter or Native?
Are you sure that it is the same seed parts as you used in NX4 ? , If it is then the settings should be the same in 7.5. - The character height has the same setting as earlier.
Can't you create new seed parts ?
If you create new seed parts, you either use the same name as the Siemens provided files, or you also need to edit the ".pax" files ( or create new .pax files.)

As pointed out by uwam2ie there was no concept of drafting standards in NX4. Only Drafting Preferences were there, that were saved in a file (e.g. seed file).

I checked with Drafting Standards. A "Drafting standard" is a named set of Preferences related to Annotation, View, Section line etc. and NX installation comes with predefined Drafting standards like ASME(Shipped), ISO(Shipped) etc. Although there is an option to create our own Drafting Standard, I don't want to set Manually all the preferences that are there in my Seed Part. Instead I want to create a Drafting Standard by Extracting and Exporting existing Preference Settings from a Seed file.

Sorry but i still don't understand.
The drafting standard part of the customer defaults was previously a part of the (NX3)single file customer defaults that in NX 5(?) was separated into a separate file.
That way Siemens could provide a number of drafting standard proposals ("Shipped"), to be finalized by the customer. I.e start of by selecting the most appropriate standard, then change the text height and save as your own standard.
If you have the NX4 customer defaults file, it can be imported twice, both to the "general customer defaults" and into the selected "drafting standard customer defaults" file.
By importing , NX will change the values on the appropriate settings and ignore the settings that no longer applies.
It should be a matter of minutes.

Then , when the customer defaults has been setup, most but not all can be imported into the seed part by opening the part, Preferences - Annotation - Load All.
See attached image.
There is an equivalent import action on the selected drafting standard dialog.

Tomas

Toost,

I am interseted in Part File Settings, i.e. the settings saved with a part file. In other words I want to export settings (e.g. Preferences-> Annotation) that are saved with a part file and create a .dpv file, so that I can import them either in "Drafting Standard" customer defaults, or "General Customer Defaults". The export Button that is there in Customer Defaults does not export all the settings saved with a part file, it exports only Session settings and User Settings (or login based settings).

Oh that's different. I don't think it is possible to export the settings from a partfile and then reuse these settings as a customer default file.
I guess that one could open the Preferences - Annotation and then look in the NX logfile, and finally , with a little program, convert the data from the logfile to the format that the .dpv ( the customer defaults) expects. But to my knowledge there is no out of the box solution. ( - let's wait and see if Cowski catches this challenge :- )

The export option in the customer defaults will export the customer defaults and not the active part.

But, if you had a seed part that fulfilled your desires in NX4, can't you reuse that in NX7.5 ?

Regards,
Tomas

I've had a similar idea in the back of my mind for a while (comparing the current file's settings to the customer default), but to be honest, I'm not sure the work involved would be worth the payoff. There are hundreds of settings to look up and compare, and there would have to be a separate version of the utility to match each version of NX (as new preferences get added and/or changed). This type of thing is probably best handled by Siemens, perhaps an ER is in order?
