Seismic effects on Piping - Canada

Hi distinguished professionals,

I am working on a greenfield project in Canada. The piping is to be designed as per B31.3-2020.
When it comes to applying wind, snow and especially seismic effects to piping, I am not sure how these effects should be applied?
I have gone through methods prescribed in ASCE-7 and NBCC but not sure how should I proceed?

I have 2 different options in my mind.

1.Use ASCE-7 methods and use site conditions from a Canadian local authority
2.Use NBCC methods and use site conditions from a Canadian local authority

Can you please guide me on industry practices that is followed when Piping is designed as per B31.3 outside USA?

OP,
Almost all Canadian provinces adopt CSA B51 for pressure vessel and pressure piping. Check with the Code/provincial regulator if they refer to any Seismic analysis methods.

B51 adopts ASME Pressure Vessel and Piping Codes. Being American the B31.3 piping Code uses 'may be' ASCE-7 for earthquake load. It also allows to use the local seismological data to refine the earthquake load.

Similarly, it does for Wind Load as well.
