Seismic Slope Stability Deformation Analysis

In using the Bray and Rathge (1998) method to perform a slope stability seismic deformation analysis, the calculated displacement is stated to occur tangent to the slip surface. For my specific project, the critical static slip surface is relatively shallow whereas the critical slip surface used to calculate the yield acceleration (F.S. = 1.0) is much deeper and much further back from the slope crest. I cannot find any documentation that describes which slip surface the estimated displacements are to occur. It is an issue since there are improvements within the large sliding mass from which the yield acceleration was calculated and not within the critical static slip surface. And there are different displacement criteria based on whether the slip surface intersects improvements or not.

Does anyone know of a reference that discusses which slip surface the displacements are estimated to?

Thanks

Got the paper out and SKIMMED it. Seems like only the slide mass for which the yield acc was calculated really makes sense there. You could try to contact the authors and ask them. Bray is still at Berkeley. Ellen is now at U Texas in Austin. They probably have web sites with their email addresses.
