Selecting only solid bodies from child components for the Model Reference Set

Hello all,

I'm looking at a typical problem at the moment, where large assemblies contain all kinds of junk from the child components, e.g. datums, sketches and in particular here, a product outline.

The user does not have ownership of the child components.

They need to create a drawing, so I've been looking at cleaning this up using layers to hide certain objects from the child components. This works, but it is time consuming.

As an alternative, I thought about tidying up the assembly's own MODEL reference set (we use master model drawing). This would also help where it's used in higher-level assemblies.

But, I'm finding that I cannot select only the solid bodies from child components, like you can in a piece part.

I've done a dummy example and attached a video - can anyone tell me if there's something I'm missing, or if this just isn't possible?

Thanks in advance, Carl.

Sounds like your users need to clean up the "model" reference set, in their components, before releasing.

Hi Dave,

Absolutely right, but we have hundreds of them across the globe (with regular turnover), and only one me.

I don't even stand a chance :-/

So I was hoping for a way to tidy up pre-existing messes.

Your first option, of using layers, is the only thing that comes to mind.

Hi Dave,

Thanks yes, with more testing I was coming to the same conclusion.

While this will work for the drawing, this won't work for the next parent assembly.

And also, it doesn't allow someone working "mid-way" through an assembly structure to produce something decent to be used in higher-levels, if the child sub-assemblies are already no good. I'm half tempted to submit this to Siemens as an ER for future versions. Maybe.

Thanks for your reply, Carl
