Hi,

I'm working on an element model which I have transfered from WB to Classic. The model is an assembly and Ansys shows the different parts in different colors. What is the easiest way to select one of these parts? Since Ansys gives them different colors, it seems reasonable to think that each part can be selected as a unit.

Hi,
remember that you don't have any solid model entity in Classical when you transfer it from WB. However, different Element Type Numbers are assigned to each part of an assembly, even if the element formulation is the same (SOLID186 or SOLID187).
So, the easiest way is to ESEL,s,TYPE,,nnn where nnn is the Element Type Number corresponding to the part you need to isolate. In order to see which ETN has been assigned, one way is to PlotControls -> Numbering -> By Element Type + Colors-and-Numbers.

Why don't you just make named selections within the workbench database and transfer it back over to classic? Or if the time would be prohibitive use Cbrns suggestion and make the components yourself within Ansys. Chances are if you need to make any sort of nodal components you will need to go back to workbench though.

That's a good idea, Brian. The thing is that I transfered the model from WB to Classic and I have done a substantial amount of work since and I don't think I can move back to WB and then return to Classic and pick up where I left (or can I?).

Thanks,
Pingen
