I found the advice in this article to be very good..


If you don't promote yourself who will? The fact is that good work often does not speak for itself, managers are so busy and self abosorbed that they often won't notice your good work unless you tell them....

I totally agree that you have to toot your own horn. The way I do it is to have an elevator speech ready on what good things I have done, so when you get a chance to have a casual conversation with your boss or even your boss's boss, you can shine a bright light on your achivements. The spin is that you have to relay the informaton as if you are giving a short status report on what you are doing vs saying outright how great you are.
