Sending sms from GSM handset to PC

How can I get my GSM handset to communicate with an application in my PC , say Ms-Access?

I want to be able to port one handset to my home pc. Message will pass thro the network from message originating handset to my handset connected to my home PC, and have these messages ported to Excell or MS-Access.

I am new to Java programming and sql.

Will be grateful to receive direction on how to achieve this or pointers to any code samples that can achieve this.

The major vendors supply the hardware interconnect to the PC and the SW that loads on the PC. You would have to go to your vendor and connect to their API (interface). After that you can use any PC language you like.
