Separator Liquid Capacity

I am needing to find the oil/water capacity in a separator. It has a weir plate and gas will be settling at the top so I know I need to account for that area that the gas will take up. Any tips?

Maybe take some classes in petroleum engineering or chemcial engineering?

Anyway its settling time that determines capacity. This will depend on your fluid properties and your added chemicals and is temperature dependent. So find a suitable residence time and then back calculate whai the given O/W ratio what flow rate will meet this.

There are stdards for calculating this btw. GPA and API.

Capacity?
Do you mean volume or flow rate?

What's your mix of oil to water?

What are you trying to do? remove water from the oil or oil from the water?

What is your criteria for a good separation in either ppm water in oil or vice versa?

Any emulsion going on?

Similarly with the gas - what level of liquid drop out do you need?
Do you inlet guides?
Do you have demister pads on the outlet?

Gas pressure makes a HUGE impact on actual flow which you need.

As you can see there are many many inputs and outputs to what sounds like a simple question...
