serial comms/DTMF generation

I have two questions:

I want to transmit data using the serial port in a C# app, but I cannot find anything inside C# to do it. How can this be done?

I want to generate DTMF tones using a modem connected to the pc. What will be the most appropriate way of doing this? Can this be done using the AT command set?

Can't help with the C#, but sending ATDT followed by the number will cause the modem to generate the appropriate DTMF tones
