Sermagaurd and Xylan Coating 2

Hi all,

As per our purchase order requirement, for Wellhead equipment (Materrial grade AISI 4130), all studs and nuts (Stud: ASTM A193 B7M and Nut: A194 2HM) shall be Sermagard coated. However, our vendor is offering us Xylan coated Studs and Nuts.
They are now justifying that both coating methods are equivalent.


Can we accepte xylan coated studs/nuts in place of Sermagard coated one ??

There are multiple versions of both coatings, so you will need to be more specific to get a good answer. There are Xylan coatings used in applications like yours.

Those two products are very similar to each other. I would consider those equivalent, with the caveat that both of those are only topcoats applied over zinc phosphate pretreatment and there is no galvanic basecoat (like zinc electroplating or SermaGard 902). If your application only needs the topcoat, then you should be in good shape.

I will not use the word equivalent, but other coatings that are similar include:

Fluorokote #1 from Metal Coatings Corporation
B18 topcoat from The Magni Group
Delta-Seal GZ from D[ö]rken
Techseal from Atotech
958G series from DuPont/Intech
