I would like to ask some advice. I have a project where I need to repair a roadway. The roadway is in between two lakes with four culverts underneath. There is always a pavement failure because the culverts are already corroded. There is always a dip on the road and to bring it back to grade additional asphalt are placed on top of the existing road. I would like to repair the road permanently. I cannot place cofferdams upstream and downstream of the culvert since it will cause flooding on the upstream basin. The existing culvert is corrugated metal pipe and I would like to replace it. The pipe is approximately an 18-inch or 24 inch pipe.
Is there a way that I can replace the culvert? Upon replacement of the culvert I am planning to replace the limerock base with an asphalt base. I would appreciate if you can provide any suggestions that you can provide to replace this culvert without constructing cofferdams? Your input is greatly appreciated.

Excavate the road for pipe replace ment just to the side of the existing 'culverts'. Place small box culverts (3 x8)in the excavation with enough capacity to replace pipes. have the supplier design the boxes for the type of load required. Once the boxes are in place, backfill. Remove the corrugated pipes and backfill. Reshape the channels to meet the new boxes.
