Hi,

Last night the company i work for suffered 4 hours downtime due to lack of knowledge on servo motors and controllers.

Issue's started last week when we lost the Neutral to the supply (It was put through an aux contact on the isolator which suffered corrosion). Got the neutral back but with several attempts to start it previously, it had damaged an Allen Bradley inverter. Since then we've been having trouble with the servo motor/controller with excessive over run/excessive travel. Watched it last night, the servo would reach it's target position but only return 3/4 of the way. Started with the obvious and replaced the servo motor. Then went through power cable and contol cables to ensure continuity. Everything ok but still the fault would continue. Took the controller from the good machine and installed it into the faulty one, problem solved! But when i put the faulty one back into the good machine it ran fine!!! At that point i was speechless, either a loose connection on the controller had caused the issue or it had decided give me a break but would raise it's head again at a later date! :)

Does anybody have any thoughts on what could possibly caused the Excessive over run/Excessive travel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
