Setting P&ID diagrams 1

Dear All,

I have a question relating to P&ID diagrams. Can anyone explain me how is P&ID dagrams are created. Could you please tell me what is essencial to know in creating P&IDs. It would be also nice to know the right order to create a P&ID. If you can give an example it would be nice.

What exactly are you asking? A P&ID is a representation of a process. If you're at a place with an existing process and no P&IDs, you walk down the piping and process components, noting valves, instrumentation, etc. Then you get with electrical engineers and determine how the various transmitters, alarms, and switches interact with the equipment.

If you're starting a new process, you typically start with the major pieces of equipment such as bulk storage tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, etc as required. This starts out a rough PFD (process flow diagram) and as you refine what the process will be and how it will be controlled, it evolves into P&IDs. Then once the process has been constructed, you refine it to capture any additional valves/instrumentation or changes that were made during construction.
