I need to run an electrical system for a small machine. I will be running off of 110 mainly but there is an option for the customer to use 220 if they choose. Half of the power will be used to run a motor and half will be used to heat and element that will be approx 400-500 degrees. I have sized the motor i will need for the system to run but do not know how to split the system. I need some direction on how to set up breakers, busses, wire size, swithes, etc. The heating element needs to have its own on/off switch. The motor will be able to run ccw or cw so I do not know if that needs to accounted for when designing the system. Maybe some one knows of a good ref source? Thanks for any info!

No personal offense is meant, but please consider finding a local electrician or contractor to help you with the work. An engineering message board is not a very good place to learn electrical ‘nuts and bolts.’ You will likely be time and money ahead not having to learn basic terminology, ratings, and codes through unillustrated text.

Suggestion: This option is available on some machines. However, a big warning is needed since there is a switch needed to switch from 110V to 220V or different input power terminals to be used for 220V. Also, to make it fool proof there is a need for a circuit breaker if the switch is inadvertently left in 120 volts while powering machine from 220V. Also, a transformer or AC-AC converter to reduce 220V down to 110V is needed.
