Setting Up Seed Parts With Inch Units

I've just started using UG NX5 and I need to set up new seed parts with imperial/english/inch units. I have the company's seed part files with metric units and ideally I'd just create a copy of these with the unit type changed to inches but I can't find out how to make this change.

Various sites have suggeted using File > Utility > Customer Defaults > Gateway / General / Part then setting the default units to inches but when I go into a sketch after this, the dimension units are still mm. I've tried every combination of changing the units before creating any features, saving after making the change, rebooting etc without success. There is also a drop down menu at the top of the Customer Defaults menu but this doesn't seem to change anything when sketching either.

I am currently working in the General Motors UG setup as they are one of our customers, could this be over-riding any changes I try to make>

In NX, the units is set when a file is created from scratch. Using a template or seed part will force your units to the units of your seed/start part.

Most likely you have the GM toolkit which is forcinga seed part on your new part creation process. You will need to run the conver_part.exe program to convert a part from metric to english units. Your other choice is to run NX without the GM toolkit which I guess is overriding your ability to create a truly new part.

If we're talking about template parts, for heavens sake, DO NOT waste your time converting the existing GM supplied Metric template parts to Imperial units. You're much better off starting over and creating your own template files.

That being said, if you're a supplier to GM, my understanding is that you are expected to supply them with NX part files in Metric units only (hence that fact that the GM toolkit ONLY comes with Metric templates). Before you spend a lot of time converting/creating new templates I would verify whether you are going to be able to work with GM if you continue to work in Imperial units.
