Any tips on how to set up the print manager for a generic laser printer. We currently have a Brother Multi-function laser printer. We are running Ideas NX on Windows 2000. We are currently using a plot utility program from a previous version of Ideas, but can't write out necessary jpeg files.

I have tried to set up the print adminstrator, thing I have it set up correctly, but after I name the file to be created the machine does not ever write the file?

Thanks in Advance!!

Not sure of your question, are you trying to send a print to your laser printer or are you trying to create a JPeg image?

What is the status of the failed print in the print queue?

If you are trying to create a JPeg and you haven't set the print to be automatically retrieved then you have to manually select the print in "Completed Jobs" form then select "Retrieve Output File"

Thanks for your reply, I guess my question is two fold;

1) how do I set up a generic printer that is not listed in the printer choices using the print administator. For example printer class? Also HPGL or LPD, or etc?

2) Is there a way to capture a jpeg of a solid model on the work bench?

3) Is the print button on the lower right of the icon panel "Quick Print", print what is on the work bench?

4) Yes I'm trying to create a jpeg of a solid model on the workbench and also during drafting of the print on the workbench? How do I go about setting up an automaotic retrieve?

Thanks!!

1. PrintAdmin - Models - Add

The main thing you'll need to know about your printer is what language it wishes to receive ie postscript, HPGL etc. The other options are quite self-explanatory.

Once the model is added then Select the Printer Tab and Add a new Printer specifying the Model created above.

2. Yes, File - Print - Select JPeg under the Printer/Export Format pull-down and then setup the parameters you wish under Print Setup, select Print and name the file to be created.

3. Quick Print will/should print to your default printer from the workbench.

4. File - Print - Queue - Cheque on Auto Retrieve

This will only fix your problem though if the print reads Retrievable in the Completed Jobs list

Thanks for your reply. I think all things are clear once I figure out the printer language and run the print admin.
