Setting up utilities for assembly and part revisions 1

I am currently using NX4 and interested in modifing the "Customer Default-Assembly-Site Standards-Part Name Versions" input window. Our standard part number convention for an assembly would consist of 5 digits followed by a dash and 3 more digits, (example: 10000-100). Parts reporting to this would use the same first 5 digits followed by a dash and 3 more digits, (example: 10000-101,102.103 .....ect). I would like to set up revisions to parts reporting to 10000-000 during part development as -01,-02,-03....ect (example 10000-101-01). Initial release for engineering control would start as -00 (example 10000-101-00). Any subsequent changes would be "formal changes" and would roll the part to 0a,0b,0c....ect (example 10000-101-0a). Can anyone tell me exactly needs to be typed into the dialog box's of the "Customer Default-Assembly-Site Standards-Part Name Versions input window?

The inputs needed are as follows

Full Part Name Format

Version Independent Section of the Part File Name

Part File Name Match

Version Section of Part File Name Match

Version Type

This can probably be done but it seems to me that the better system at the outset might be to adopt the Military system as used in software versioning. <partname>.01.01.01 for example. It is easier to set up the versioning rules for that than what you have proposed.

You'll find it under Utilities>Customer Defaults, then Assemblies>Site Stamdards and the Part Name Versions Tab. You may need to access the help for examples of what to type into the various feilds. Many people do struggle with the more complex cases but if you can access the examples from the documentation as a starting point you will at least get something to work to begin with.

Another tip is to set something up and then once it is done restart NX and look at your load options. If it has worked after some fashion then the check box "load latest" should no longer be greyed out and you'll be able to tick it on to activate your part name versions. Having done so you would then hit "Define Search Directories" and use "Verify Directories" to analyse which files meet the naming standard and which do not. The system generates a report in response. My technique was to create files in a directory with variations of naming designed to delieberately test the part name versions then set the search directories to point at just that one test directory so that the Verify Directories report was most useful to me.
