Settlement Measuring Tools

Dear ALL,

What is the measuring tools for displacement and settlement control of structural elements in buildings. Say that if there is any settlement in the floor slab or beam then how we are suppoosed to measure it.
I remember that we used the glass based settlement gauges for that purpose in past but I coulnd't remember the name of it in literature. Your help will be appreciated.

I use a green laser level. I use it on most inspection jobs. It's very useful. You can pickup all sorts of issues. Sagging floors, leaning floors, leaning walls, footing movement, inadequate drainage, etc..
