helloo, we have a big project consist of 5 packages , lateral sewer 2. Trunk Sewer 3. pump station 4. treatment plant and Return TSE line
any one can advise about the kind of valves we will use in these applications ?

'Large' might cover a multitude of sizes, but covering a pipeline range from 50mm (2") up to about 800mm (32") for checkvalves and higher for stopvalves, pressure rating from 2,5 to 16 bar:

General on/off valves:
High quality gatevalves, soft sealing, flanged body, short or long pattern from 50mmm up to 150 - 200 - 300mmm, or if suitable higher,
and/or high quality knife-gate valves, flat construction with sealing at zero pressure both ways, without pockets gathering residue, with mix of throguging bolts and threaded holes for one-sided pins and nuts for the pipelines flanges, making it possible to use as end-valves. 50mm and up.

Actuators: Handoperated directly, hand or electrical operated with gear, oil-hydraulic or pneumatic, - all possible.

Valves for filtered waste-water: Other types of valves might occasionally be used (Double-eccentric BFL as an example, not my first choice, others possible))

Checkvalves (Note: careful choice to avoid water-hammer or unstable 'rumbeling' action by oversizing).
Ball checkvalves: most commonm, but might give serious trouble if pumping capacity is variable, and/or wrongly sized (too large).

Best is swing-check type valves with full flanged house, full opening (disc hinged and operated fully out of the flow stream), if necessary spring or otherwise balanced to close to avoid gulping by (very) low flow, and for shutting down before waterhammer takes effect.

Other types of disc-checkvalves is possible if fluid allows

Note: Correct sizing and layout of pipelines is essential. Choice of pumps is an art in itself.

dear , thank you for the Email .
why soft sealing gate valve ? not metal? what is the main difference between both .

and regarding the application for the valves , where exactly we use all valves you have mention ?

in other words ; we have 5 packages , [1]lateral sewer 2. Trunk Sewer 3. pump station 4. treatment plant and Return TSE line.
so what we use in Lateral Sewer sepertly , pump station seperetly , in treatment plan n Tse..etc ( where to use each valves you mention above ).

Hello hyari,

I understand you have a lot of questions, but most of the answers you will be able to find by search and research yourself. This is after all an engineering tips forum, meant to give spesific expert answers on spesific technical problems, not general advice and consultaning on larger projects.

Good luck!

helloo ,

thank you i will .
from your experience , which is Brand name is the best , KSB , MIV , AVK GROUP , ERHARD , OR WHAT ?

All are well-known brands. This forum and I will normally be neutral and not recommend one particular brand before another, although I do have certain opinions. As a general point you should check and ask for direct references. Focus on expected lifetime, and ask vendors to point out the strengths of their constructions. Some of theese types will cost more than competitors, but will very often have a competitive price if you check Price/expected lifetime factor.

Price and use if mounting costs for actuator will vary from brand to brand (beware: also elecrical actuator quality will vary mucch). Pneumatic actuator prices will variate more in price than quality. Size where it is sensible to go from s gate- to knifegate will also vary.

Go for highquality products!

i know all are known Brands , and i respect all of them but in the end some Brand should be Shortlisted with respect , this is the market and all of them know that.

one of the main reasons i joined this Forum is to get all data related to valves ! and once you are expert i would like you to share your recommendation.

i know Orbinox - From AVK in Knife Gate valve and Pentstock they are the leaders , Glenfield in Gate valve also .
does not mean other brand not high quality ! but as i said this is the marker and this how the bossiness work and all of us should respect

Most factories can offer valves of same general type, for instance knife-gate valves, but in different qualities and with different materials and different solutions. Modern factories will have a constant product development with improvements over time.

For knife-gate valves variations would typically be uni-directional, bi-directional, with or without stainless steel housing, with or without easy change from manual to pneumatic to electrical operation, vastly different soulutions in details and sealings for shaft and seat, difficult or easy to change sealings, different in pricing and avilability for different sizes with different 'sizing steps' for prices and avibility, with or without simple possibility for use as end-valve, differences in material details, coating etc. etc. etc.

All solutions for a project have to be a compromise of price, lifetime, quality, budget and operational and maintenance cost.

Unfortunately there is no easy way out of a proper engineering selection adapted to the project needs and end-users wishes. The points above have to be considered rather than the manufacturers name, but not without considering also local availability, service and references.

My advice have always been to try to talk to or pre-qualify bidders by presenting a very simplified overview of types and amount for the different valve groups and ask for suggestions and availability for best economical product solutions, and (NOTE!) suggestions also for available products of better construction/lifetime (and hence higher cost) they would suggest. Ask for list prices, stress that this is a preliminary technical survey, revised proper formal inquiry to be asked for later.

Ask for references and check them!

interesting data of Knife GV , what about Gate and Butterfly valves ?
which kind of production and technical design we have to check
