We’re currently working on a restoration project in which an isolated column is exposed for repair works (concrete encased steel column). Structural/Design Engineer has requested to apply 2 hour fire rated SFRM on the exposed sections. Roughly 25-50 s.f. of area for column on each floor is exposed.
As a special inspector, do we perform special inspection for column for each floor (thickness, bond strength and density tests)? I just wanted to confirm if there’s any reference in the code that limits the inspection for individual column on each floor or should we proceed with an inspection on each floor, which would involve taking samples for density tests and performing bond strength test on each floor.
Code refers to 1 column per floor or 1 column per 10,000 s.f.
