I am trying to understand how a float in a magnetic level gauge could sink -to the bottom of the chamber- due to an error on max fluid's specific gravity. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Are you sure it's level, not interface?
A level float should still float over a wide range of density because it has lots of bouyancy whereas an interface float is barely floating so if the density changes slightly there's a good change it will sink.

Assume you already solved the problem, but would like to have my inputs / options:
1. One possibility is the float did ot fall down but was stuck there while the level was low.
2. The temperature or pressure was too high and the float shape was changed and stuck.
3. Fluid specific gravity lower then the minimum required for the float to be lift up.
4. Crack or hole at the float.

Cheer up
