Shade sail wind loads in Australian context

How do people calculate the lateral wind loads from a shade sail on a cantilevered column? I have heard of a rule of thumb that the uplift load can be applied laterally although does anyone have anything more precise?

Additionally how do people determine the lateral tensile load from rigging the shade sail in the first place?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

what "australian context" ? do we have to think upside down ? (I can say that, I are one.)

without knowing anything about shade sails, I'd apply the wind load normal to the surface. I'd've thought that if you applied it in a truly horizontal/lateral direction, then some guys would go into compression.

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?
